The Thomas Farr Charity has awarded Broxtowe Youth Homelessness £10,000 towards a new project for young people in the care system in Nottinghamshire.
It has been identified that care leavers are disproportionately more likely to experience, unemployment, mental health issues and homelessness. To try and combat these outcomes Nottinghamshire County Council launched the Care Leavers Offer, which offers additional support to help care leavers transition into independent living.
Broxtowe Youth Homelessness, Nottinghamshire County Council and Care Leaver Champion, Terry Galloway have come together to look at the second stage of the Care Leavers Offer and what else can be done to improve outcomes for this group of young people. The initial idea is based on a project called iFoster in America. We will be training and supporting young people in care to be prepared for work, through training but also setting up meaningful work placements.
Thank you to the Thomas Farr Charity for funding the training element of project, we look forward to sharing our progress with you.
